Title and Affiliation
Associate Director, PHACS Health Education and Community Core
Westat, Inc.
Megan’s enthusiasm for working with communities affected by HIV started abroad while studying HIV from the Micronesian perspective on Guam. After returning to the mainland United States, Megan continued on her career path and founded Madison HIV/AIDS Alliance, where she produced a “Get Smart, Get Tested” HIV testing campaign, held HIV educational seminars for university students, and submitted a successful program grant for additional HIV awareness/educational programs.
In 2011, Megan joined the Westat team as a Research Assistant and Liaison to the PHACS Community Advisory Board (CAB). Under the leadership of Claire Berman, the PHACS Director of Health Education and Communication, Megan co-led health education and community engagement efforts for PHACS. She has worked with PHACS CAB members to produce semi-annual newsletters, facilitated communication between PHACS researchers and community members, and co-led the production of a wide-range of dynamic health educational resources. In 2015, she was awarded the PHACS Lagniappe Award for outstanding service as a CAB Liaison and for dedication to overall study success. From 2013-2020, Megan also served as a Clinical Research Associate (CRA), conducting site monitoring activities at six (6) PHACS clinical sites.
In 2020, Megan became the Associate Director of the Health Education and Community Core (HECC), where she seeks to increase meaningful community engagement efforts within PHACS to support equitable collaborations between researchers, study participants, and the broader community. Megan is honored to work with the incredibly compassionate, hard-working, and collaborative PHACS team.
