COVID-19 and PHACS

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created a public health challenge unprecedented in our lifetimes.
We know that for PHACS study participants and staff, who are spread all around the country, including Puerto Rico, there are many questions about the novel coronavirus. Many are wondering how COVID-19 may affect people living with HIV. They may want to know how the pandemic will affect access to medical care and needed medications, and the many other ripple effects it will have on people's lives. Around the world, many are experiencing a sudden loss of income and benefits and heightened fear and anxiety. We have a new day-to-day reality as we stay home to prevent the virus from spreading further. Many are either positive for COVID-19 or caring for someone who is.
Many PHACS clinical staff are working with patients on the front-lines of clinical care. Others have shifted their research duties to remote work settings to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. First and foremost, we want to thank each and every one of you for your commitment to the work of PHACS.
Much remains unknown about COVID-19 and how it may affect people living with HIV. However, many organizations have created resources that show what we know thus far.
We understand that the stress, anxiety, and fear of this moment have only deepened a feeling of uncertainty, isolation, and exhaustion, which may have intensified over the course of the past year. We encourage everyone to continue to take care of yourselves and stay connected.
